In a shocking turn of events, the Edo State Police Command has paraded a 400-Level student of the University of Port Harcourt identified as Victor Ochonogor, who stands accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend in his residence in Benin City. The disturbing incident unfolded at 10, Osahon Street, Ogheghe Quarters, situated off Sapele Road in Benin City.
Reports suggest that the tragedy transpired when an altercation escalated between Ochonogor and his girlfriend, ultimately leading to her untimely demise. Both individuals were reportedly locked inside Ochonogor’s residence as the confrontation turned violent. The landlord of the property alerted the authorities to the incident, prompting swift police action.
The Commissioner of Police, Dankwara Mohammed, provided insights into the situation during the suspect’s public parading at the police command. According to Mohammed, the police received a report about the incident around 4 p.m. on August 21, 2023, and promptly initiated an investigation.
Ochonogor, a 25-year-old, was presented before the media during the parade. He offered his version of events, claiming that he had been in a relationship with the deceased for a span of three years. The suspect expressed bewilderment at the accusations leveled against him, stating that his girlfriend had accused him of being involved in kidnappings. Ochonogor recounted confronting his girlfriend about the accusations, questioning why she would believe such allegations when they had been together for an extended period.
“I am not a kidnapper,” Ochonogor proclaimed, his voice filled with a mix of confusion and desperation. He went on to assert that members of the girlfriend’s family were acquainted with him and should be aware of his character.
Contrary to certain speculations, Ochonogor vehemently denied that jealousy over his girlfriend’s potential marriage to another man played a role in the tragic event.
