Transport Fare Reduction and Daily Food Packs for Vulnerable Citizens Launched by Governor Sanwo-Olu

In a significant move to alleviate the impact of fuel subsidy removal and the challenging economic situation, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced a reduction in transport fares on all Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) routes by 50 per cent, effective from tomorrow. Additionally, fares on commercial yellow buses (‘Danfo’) will be reduced by 25 per cent on all routes.

The governor also revealed plans to increase the number of Lagos State staff buses and distribute new buses soon. Moreover, the state will initiate the distribution of food packs including rice, beans, and cassava flour (garri) to vulnerable individuals through Community Development Associations (CDAs), churches, mosques, and local governments.

To ensure seamless implementation, the 50 per cent reduction in BRT fares will be supervised by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), while the authorities of Lagos Park and Garage will deliberate on involving yellow bus operators.

This comprehensive set of measures demonstrates the government’s commitment to supporting its citizens during these challenging times and enhancing the overall public transportation system and food security in the state.
