Trouble For Students As ASUU Reacts To Exclusion Of Lecturers From Pay Rise

The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, has accused the Nigerian government of creating a crisis for the incoming administration by excluding lecturers from the recent 40% salary increment implemented by the Federal Government.

In an interview with a journalist, Osodeke expressed disappointment in the government for increasing the salary of one sector by 40% and leaving out the others, which he claimed could create confusion in the system.

He added that the government has been negotiating with the union for six years but has not acceded to any of their demands.

Osodeke also revealed that the low salaries of lecturers are causing a brain drain in the education sector as the best brains in the country are leaving for better pay abroad.
