Twelve Suspected Internet Fraudsters Arrested for Allegedly Burying Newborn Alive in Rivers State

In a shocking turn of events, authorities in Rivers State have apprehended twelve individuals suspected of engaging in Internet fraud, after they were allegedly discovered burying a newborn baby alive at the Andoni waterfront in Eagle Island. The operation, carried out jointly by the Port Harcourt Local Government Authority (PLGA) Security Watch, the Rivers State Neighbourhood Watch, and local police, followed a tip-off about suspicious activity.

Victor Ohaji, the Chairman of PLGA Security Watch and Chief Security Officer of Eagle Island, provided details of the incident to journalists. Upon receiving information that a group of men were performing a peculiar ritual involving digging and chanting, Ohaji promptly informed the Azikiwe Police Division and the state neighbourhood agency. By the time authorities arrived at the scene, the suspects had fled, but they left behind evidence of their activities—a newly buried newborn.

Upon excavation, a newborn baby boy was discovered. Ohaji recounted that he immediately contacted the Situation Officer of Eagle Island, who then informed the relevant law enforcement personnel. The police, in collaboration with neighbourhood watchmen, conducted a thorough search of Eagle Island, leading to the spotting of the suspects leaving a hotel. A chase ensued, resulting in the successful apprehension of all twelve suspects, along with the rescued baby. The group was subsequently taken into custody at a local police station.

During the course of their arrest, one of the suspects reportedly boasted that their connections, particularly a claim that one of their fathers held a senior military position, would shield them from any repercussions. However, authorities are treating the case with the utmost seriousness. Grace Iringe-Koko, the State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspects were captured with the assistance of vigilant community members. The case has now been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for a thorough investigation.
