On Tuesday, 18th August 2020 was indeed seen as another height of intimidation and harassment for a broadcast journalist Mr. Kingsley Onwuka, who is working for the DarlingFM Radio Station Owerri.
An eye witness account confirmed the news that Gov. Hope Uzodinma’s SA on Special Duties, Mr. Chinasa Nwaneri, desperately seized the phone of the news reporter from DarlingFM radio at Freedom Square Owerri during news coverage.
On the process, Mr. Nwaneri forcefully snatched the phone of Kingsley Onwuka, while he was using it on duty and alleged that he (Journalist) was videoing him.
(But as a public servant and a politician, is he not suppose to be captured while he left his office to distract the gathering of the unpaid Imo pensioners at the Freedom Square?)
He rushed the pressman and seized his phone.
The incident occurred when some of the unpaid Imo Pensioners were having a meeting at the Square as their usual meeting place.
It was gathered the govt. got information about the gathering of the retirees that prompted some govt. officials to lockout some of the pensioners who wanted to join their colleagues.
The entrance to the Square was under lock and key due alleged phobia of their proposed and expected protest.
More so, information has it that even the CPS to the Imo State Governor, Mr.Oguwuike Nwachukwu, called Nwaneri’s phone number over three times to retrieve the journalist’s handset but he ignored to answer his calls.
It was also gathered that Chinasa Nwaneri refused to pick any calls from so many callers who wanted to appeal for the release of Kingsley’s phone.
