Update on Nnamdi Kanu’s Detention and Medical Visit at SSS Headquarters

In a recent development regarding the detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), his legal team provided an update on his situation and a medical visit that took place at the headquarters of the State Security Service (SSS) in Abuja.

Accompanied by two Chief Medical Consultants recommended by Nnamdi Kanu’s wife, the medical visit was organized to address the urgent need for medical attention for the detained leader. The details of the medical experts were shared with the SSS well in advance by the lead counsel, Prof. Mike Ozekhome.

During the visit, which focused solely on the medical consultation, Nnamdi Kanu spent over three hours with the doctors, discussing pertinent matters. However, the specifics of their discussions have been deemed private until the second phase of the visit concludes.

It is important to note that a routine visit to Nnamdi Kanu was previously canceled due to the SSS’s violation of a court order, which stipulates that the detention authorities should allow him access to three individuals during each scheduled visit. Last week, the SSS denied access to Nnamdi Kanu, prompting his objection. Fortunately, this issue was resolved, and today’s visit proceeded as scheduled.

Nnamdi Kanu was also briefed on his upcoming court appearance at the Federal High Court in Abuja, set for tomorrow, July 11, 2023. His legal team, led by Prof. Mike Ozekhome, expressed their readiness for the proceedings. However, further details regarding the briefing and their professional engagements remain undisclosed.
