Veteran Nollywood Actor, Mr Ibu Dies at 62

By Akinwale Kasali

Less than 24 hours after the loss of Quadri Oyebamiji, popularly known as Sisi Quadri, the Nollywood community mourns the passing of another veteran actor, John Okafor, famously known as Mr Ibu.

The comedic actor, who had undergone surgeries resulting in the amputation of his leg, has succumbed to the challenges of his health condition. Prior to his demise, Mr Ibu faced health struggles that led to his absence from the public eye for over three years, sparking concerns about his well-being.

In 2019, Mr Ibu made headlines when he alleged that his kinsmen had conspired to poison him due to his successful career. Later, in May 2022, he claimed to have been poisoned for the third time, sharing a harrowing experience of seeing people on “the other side” but being brought back to life through medical intervention.

Reflecting on his illness in an interview with Vanguard Newspaper, Okafor disclosed, “My illness was actually perpetrated by people who hate me. They did what they did to me. Later, I was taken to the hospital. The doctors are prophets. So, they went into my system and they told me what was wrong and what they are going to do.

Despite the challenges and skepticism he faced, Mr Ibu expressed gratitude for being given a second chance at life, emphasizing that the experience taught him profound lessons. His passing leaves a void in the Nollywood industry, and fans mourn the loss of a talented and resilient entertainer.
