The plot by Aguleri cabal to impose Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo as the candidate of the party for the November 6 governorship election is tearing the party apart.
The battle is being fought in two camps. The secret by the Aguleri cabal to use the members of U-AYA as the adhoc delegates for the party primaries are presently being resisted by other powerful leaders in the party who have thrown their weights behind AfaIgboBuOfu group led by Acobarry Chukwuma.
Presently, most APGA leaders are quietly giving their backings to AfaIgboBuOfu and will use the group against the plans of Aguleri cabal to use U-AYA to rig the APGA primary in favour of Prof Soludo.
The ongoing war in APGA came to the fore at the weekend when AfaIgboBuOfu had their one year anniversary at the Women Development Centre, Awka and had in attendance all APGA aspirants except Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
Apart from APGA governorship aspirants, some APGA leaders including Mbuze Agulu (Igwe APGA) Barr Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, Sir Melie Onyejepu etc honoured the event.
However, the event and its outcome became a slight on Aguleri cabal especially the leaders of U-AYA. In the last 48 hours, there has been total fall out and media war between the Aguleri media and that of AfaIgboBuOfu.
While the Aguleri media led by one Chinedu Obigwe Akaekpuchionwa and Machi Pius Igwe have been attacking the event calling AfaIgboBuOfu and Acobarry Chukwuma rebels, the group are also responding describing U-AYA and its leaders as the true enemies of APGA.
AfaIgboBuOfu is insisting that APGA must conduct a free and fair primary election and allow a level playing ground for all the party aspirants against the position of U-AYA and Aguleri cabal who insist that it is either Prof Soludo or the party will go down.
AIF Media gathered that while AfaIgboBuOfu is being backed by Osodieme and other powerful APGA leaders, U-AYA is backed by Aguleri cabal. And this has caused a sharp division in the party.
The war started when Acobarry Chukwuma led members of AfaIgboBuOfu to a courtesy visit to some APGA governorship aspiants. The visit angered U-AYA leaders as one of them called Acobarry and warned them seriously to stop any further visit and solidarity with other APGA governorship aspirants.
He was warned that any such visit will attract severe punishment and disbandment. But the stubborn Acobarry who also feels powerful dared the kingmaker and rebuffed him. The UK based Acobarry who founded AfaIgboBuOfu and got the backing of Osodieme to “destroy” Senator Dr Ikemba Ifeanyi Ubah remained adamant.
His stubbornness played out this weekend at the one year anniversary of AfaIgboBuOfu. His ability to mobilise all the governorship aspirants of APGA to attend the event was a huge boast. More importantly, was the presence of other APGA leaders like Mbuze Agulu, Ifeatu Obi-Okoye etc.
U-AYA and Aguleri cabal responded by unleasing its media arm to condemn the event. They described Acobarry Chukwuma as a rebel who is being sponsored by opposition to destroy APGA.
Responding, AfaIgboBuOfu accused the U-AYA media led by Akaekpuchionwa Chinedu Obigwe as attacking the First Last Lady who they accused of sponsoring AfaIgboBuOfu to stop the emergence of Prof Chukwuma Soludo as APGA candidate.
U-AYA believed that AfaIgboBuOfu believes it’s untouchable because the group is being sponsored by the governor’s wife. They are threatened that Madam is protecting AfaIgboBuOfu who they accused is working Soludo governorship project.
Within the last 48 hours hell has let loose in APGA. It is gradually snowballing into a full scale war between the camp of Aguleri cabal and that of Osodieme as presented by U-AYA and AfaIgboBuOfu respectively.
