He doesn’t win election.
As a national chairman of APGA, he came in through coup. He announced himself the national chairman of APGA in a hotel room at Enugu and was there for 13 years without any proper election.
He ruled APGA for 13 years. He manipulated the weakness of the nation’s judiciary to perpetuate himself for 13 years. The only time he attempted to conduct an elective national convention in APGA was in February 2011. But because of fear of losing out, he used a voice vote to reelect himself for a 4 year tenure at the Awka convention.
In 2015, when he wanted to go to senate, out of fear of losing out at the party primaries, he remained the national chairman of APGA and gave himself the party ticket for senate Anambra central.
During the 2015 general election, Umeh lost to Iyom Uche Ekwunife of PDP. The Iron Lady defeated him and Umeh went to court. At the court, Umeh instead of challenging the outcome of the senatorial election, went to the tribunal to challenge the outcome of the PDP primary election that produced Ekwunife. Nigeria being what it is, the judges gave it to him.
It was a stolen mandate. Ndi Anambra central voted for Uche Ekwunife of PDP and not Umeh. The court erred.
In 2019, Umeh came out again for senate. This time, no one came out to contest the party ticket with him because of the fear that he has a way of taking it from the court. So he got the party ticket unopposed again.
But one significant thing happened. Ekwunife and Umeh met at one even in Anambra in 2018 and Iyom looked Umeh straight into his eyes said, ‘Ohamadike, you stole my mandate, but I will take from you in 2019. I will defeat you in all the polling units in 2019. I will recover my mandate, I will defeat you.’
And in 2019 general election, it was Umeh of APGA against Ekwunife of PDP in Anambra central senatorial zone. Despite being a serving senator as at then, Umeh lost. Iyom Uche Ekwunife defeated him in all the 7 LGAs of Anambra central senatorial zone.
It was not a magic. Umeh is not popular at the ballot. He is only popular at the courts and intra party crisis.
As we go into the 2023 general elections. Umeh is presenting himself as the only candidate to win election for APGA. He is buying up jobbers and clowns to drum support for him. His poor media boys are everywhere abusing and attacking anyone perceived to have interest in Anambra central senatorial zone.
To them, APGA Anambra Central belongs to Umeh even when it is obvious that Uche Ekwunife can defeat him again and again.
It is time for Ohamadike to allow fresh blood to lead APGA in Anambra central senatorial zone. There are young vibrant aspirants coming out to challenge PDP in Anambra central and Umeh should give them support. He should not allow his ego to push him further. If Iyom wins him again, it will be complete burial for APGA in Anambra central.
