Why William rejected Chelsea new offer over a fresh deal at Arsenal

A Brazilian attacking midfielder Willian Borges da Silva is ‘upset and offended’ with how Chelsea have ended his Stamford Bridge career.

Willian has been left feeling ‘upset and offended’ after his seven-year stay at the club came crashing down to a bitter end, according to the 31-year-old has penned a three-year contract to join rivals after his talks over a new deal to remain at Stamford Bridge collapsed.

The winger had wanted a three-year extension but was instead offered a ‘take it or leave it’ rebuttal from director Marina Granovskaia before the crisis brought a temporary halt to the season.

Despite top-flight action having resumed after the three-month hiatus, talks didn’t move any further with the Brazil international due to Chelsea being unwilling to match his demands.

The impasse has recently allowed Arsenal to swoop in and seal the deal on a free transfer. Willian will earn £100,000-a-week at his new club, despite them appearing to be cash-strapped during an uncertain transfer window.

Daily News Reporters revealed that Willian may cost Arsenal up to £20.8million in total when his wages are taken into consideration.

Willian’s representatives believe Chelsea did not do enough to keep the winger at the club.

The contract he has been offered also contains an option for a fourth year, meaning the winger may leave when he is 36, and may also include a signing-on fee.

Blues boss Frank Lampard is believed to have personally appealed to the club’s hierarchy to hand Willian the contract he had requested.

The 42-year-old recognises the impact the former Shakhtar Donetsk star has had since his arrival in 2013, with Willian having scored 63 goals and registered 62 assists.

Chelsea won two Premier League titles, the Europa League, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup during his trophy-laden stay.

The Brazil international played a key part in Chelsea’s cup and league triumphs since his arrival. But with the West London outfit remaining firm over their policy of offering more experienced players short-term deals, Willian’s camp believe Chelsea’s reluctance to keep the player was laid bare.

Willian is keen to remain in London due to his family having settled into the city. It has also been reported that Willian is close friends with Arsenal centre back David Luiz and the duo now appear set to be reunited in the near future.

The incentive to continue playing European football may also have swayed Willian to head to the Emirates after Arsenal downed the Blues at Wembley to win the FA Cup.

But the switch comes amid fierce criticism being directed at the club after their controversial decision to make 55 non-playing staff members .

Ian Wright was among those to criticise Arsenal after the club proposed 55 redundancies.

Head of football Raul Sanllehi made the announcement this week, Managing director Vinai Venkatesham was also present in the conference call.

The announcement was greeted with widespread fury on Wednesday, with Arsenal revealing they have entered a 30-day consultation period over the proposed job cuts. Both Piers Morgan and former striker Ian Wright have since voiced their dismay.

Arsenal’s players are also said to have been left feeling betrayed by the bombshell measures. The squad took a 12.5 per cent pay cut in April, and were left frustrated after believing their sacrifice would help protect jobs at the club.

Sources have told Daily News Reporters that Granit Xhaka, despite having been stripped of the armband, was among the most vocal in crisis talks held between the players after the news surrounding the redundancies surfaced.
