You can’t deny the fact, no matter which divide you belong, that amongst all the governors of Anambra State HE Peter Obi remains the yardstick for quality performance measurement.
The good people of Anambra State prayed fervently to get a successor that would improve on the giant strides of achievement of the man we fondly call Okwute. Unfortunately, not only did those prayers go unanswered, our wishes actually went in the reverse. Today, we truly need another Okwute to get us out of the deep hole we found ourselves.
In the ranks of the pool of aspirants angling to participate in the November 6, 2021 gubernatorial election, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP packs a solid base of quality individuals that can be trusted. However, in any group of equals, someone still leads. Among that group and even beyond the party’s rank of all that have declared interest, Engr Chris Emeka Azubogu by all existential and experiential assessment, has the greatest propensity to be another HE Peter Obi.
Think of humility, extremely prudent, being workaholics, excellent knowledge of the people and terrain, ability to identify the people’s problems and the blessing to always proffer appropriate solutions … these two graduates of University of Nigeria, Nsukka have all in abundance. But perhaps, the most striking resemblance is their deep love for humanity. Okwute, despite all his achievements, went as far as saving money for the future of dear people of his state. Ifeanyichukwu’s free medical outreach projects of which the wonders performed at the recently conducted fourth edition is still very fresh in memories of genuine lovers of humanity.
I can say Anambra State stumbled on the former governor by a stroke of luck considering that he was coming as a political neophyte. However, the one that has the capabilities to step into his big shoes is coming from a well-assessed-and-found-worthy background of excellence in public service. It is really no coincidence that Azubogu had a stint in the government of Okwute when he assisted as CEO of his ICT company that completely eliminated ghost workers in the state.
Yes, we need another Okwute and he is really here with us, very prepared to serve.
