Permit me to tell you this personal story (it will be a long read, please read to the end)
During the Covid year 2020, everyone was locked in. No way out, no way in, just you, your spouse, family, your phones and yourself. I went into lockdown with over #150k in my account and as a student as that time, I felt it to be big money.
I thought the lockdown would end in a matter of months, but you and I both know how long it lasted.
I know you may be wondering what my big mistake was. My mistake was not learning anything. There was food at home, so I didn’t contribute financially to the house( I stayed at my aunt’s house, because I was in the east when it happened).
Somehow my money finished, it finished on data and watching tiktok videos but I didn’t learn anything. I had to borrow money from my friend few days before the lockdown was called off.
On getting to Lagos, my mum opened a shop inside tradefair, she sold sneakers. So I started selling sneakers too. I started posting on my Whatsapp status.
The first two weeks, I sold nothing. Like I didn’t sell not even one pair of shoe and I had my girl’s asoebi to pay for and a phone to repair.
I kept posting on my status with funny captions like, “please patronise me before I go to my village, buy from me unless I will die on hunger”.
I started pasting, “sold out” on pictures of sneakers that were not close to being sold out..
I almost went as far as downloading fake receipts(I can’t remember what stopped me from doing so. I believe it was the Holy Spirit.)
I was frustrated and angry.
One evening, I was viewing people’s status when I stumbled on Ebuka’s status. He talked of one book that changed his business. He sold beads, coral beads.
I asked him to share the book with me, he sent me a link to buy it.
I checked the link and the book was going for 4k.
Where I see 4k to waste???
I went on Facebook and Google to see if I could get it for free and people were really saying positive things about the book.

I pleaded with my mum to buy it for me.
It was my first ever business book to read.
3weeks into implementing what I read, I sold 5 pairs of sneakers with 3k profit on each of them.
I started selling like a mad person.
In less than 3months I was able to buy my current phone, redmi note 9( it was going for 88,500 when I bought it.)
This secrets I learnt kept me going till ASUU called off the strike. At that point, I didn’t want the strike to end.
You may be wondering what exactly made my sales improve.
I will tell you.
■ I learnt how to make Nigerians want my sneakers and other goods I started selling.
■ I was able to figure out the exact type of sneakers and footwears Nigerians like to spend money on(we like flashy things)
■ I was able to turn my customers into my friends. They got to know me,trust me, liked me and what I was selling
■ I learnt how to handle rude customers without being a slave to the “customers are always right” theory.
Having read and Implemented more than half of what I learnt in the book, I have decided to share it with you.
