Christmas, A Season To Be Generous And Compassionate To One Another – Ekwunife

By Kingsley Ubani

The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Senator Uche Ekwunife (Iyom) has stated that Christmas is a season for Christians to be generous and compassionate to one another.

In a statement marking the 2020 Christmas Day celebration, Ekwunife noted that the annual celebration of the nativity of Christ reminds us of a significant moment in the journey of our salvation when God became man for the sake of humanity.

The Federal Lawmaker further described the season of Christmas as a time to show love to one another by being empathetic to the less-privileged in our society. According to her, “This is a time for us to be our brother’s keeper, extend our generosity to one another and ensure that the less-privileged among us are not left out of the merriment that usually characterize this period”.

Senator Ekwunife acknowledged that this year’s celebrations come at a time when our nation and many countries in the world are faced with the rampaging and devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, a situation she noted that calls for extra efforts from all citizens in order to curb the spread of the deadly disease. She equally called on Christians to spare a thought and pray for our healthcare workers who are at the frontline battling this global pandemic.

While reflecting on the state of our Nation, Ekwunife stated that embracing God’s charge of love for one another which should be the primary target of Christians would put an end to the wanton killings, ethnic and religious clashes and other evils that retard the growth and development of the country. She urged Christians to pray for improvement in the social, political and economic condition of the country as we gradually come to the end of what has been a difficult year for many.

Senator Ekwunife called for renewed commitment as we get set to usher in year 2021, a year which she described as significant for many people, particularly the people of Anambra State, who will go to the polls to choose their next Governor. She emphasized the need for Ndi Anambra to utilize the opportunity to once again re-define the destiny of the State by participating actively in the democratic process in order to ensure that the next government is headed by an individual who understands the economy, the people and the politics of the State.

Concluding, Senator Ekwunife wished all constituents of Anambra Central Senatorial District, Ndi Anambra, and all Christians, a Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year. She expressed hope that this season will herald a new dawn for our nation, Nigeria and rekindle our love for one another.
