The major stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anaocha local government area have adopted Senator Uche Ekwunife as their sole candidate for the 2021 Anambra Governorship election.
This was made known on Sunday, 23rd August 2020 through a motion moved by the Former Zonal Secretary of PDP, Chief Okey Ezenwa (Igwurube Anaocha) and Seconded by a former Anambra State House of Assembly member, Hon Barr Sylvester Okeke (Okwulora Agulu) in a meeting between the Stakeholders and Senator Ekwunife.
Through the motion which was unanimously adopted by all present, Anaocha PDP Stakeholders resolved to throw their weight behind Senator Ekwunife for the 2021 Anambra Governorship race. According to the stakeholders, the decision was premised on the fact that Senator Ekwunife is the surest way to Agu-Awka and the aspirant well known to them whose political antecedents and impact in the local government, the Senatorial District and the State is outstanding. They equally vowed that Senator Ekwunife will not lose one vote in Anaocha LGA.
Addressing the gathering, the PDP Leader in Anaocha LGA Chief Felix Oli urged the stakeholders of the party in the local government to support a candidate whose victory in the Governorship election will impact positively on the local government and the State.
Describing Senator Ekwunife as a guber Aspirant who deserves the support of party leaders and members within the local government, Chief Oli called for unity of purpose for the PDP in the local government ahead of the polls.
In his remark, the Honourable Member representing Anaocha I Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon Ebele Ejiofor (Mandela Anaocha) addressed the gathering on the need for Anaocha political stakeholders to support Senator Ekwunife in her guber ambition.
Hon Ejiofor noted that he is openly supporting Senator Ekwunife because he is convinced that she has what it takes to win next year’s guber election for the party as well as move the State forward. He emphasized the need for PDP to give the flag to winnable candidate not someone that will just collect the flag and use it to lunch himself politically without achieving victory for the party.
In her address, Senator Ekwunife urged the PDP Stakeholders in the local government to join hands with her to win the governorship election for the party.
She stated that the 2021 guber election provides an opportunity for the party to present a candidate who understands the politics of the State, the people and what it takes to develop the State.
“Having served in the National Assembly, I have garnered the requisite experience and contact needed to impact positively on the lives of the people of the State. I therefore appeal to you my leaders in the local government to see my guber ambition as an opportunity to move the local government and the State forward”, She said.
Other stakeholders who spoke at the well attended meeting were Hon. Chief Justice Ezeokeke, Lady Chinwe Onuorah, Hon Mrs Genevieve Ekwochi, Hon Chuka Okpoko the President General of Nri, Chief Dr. Kelvin Obiegbunam and many others. Some ward chairmen from Aguata who came on solidarity visit also assured Anaocha stakeholders that Aguata is ready to support their daughter saying that Senator Uche Ekwunife is a daughter in whom they are well pleased. They assured the gathering of Senator Ekwunife’s victory in Aguata LGA.
It’s important to note that Senator Ekwunife who is a daughter of Igbo-Ukwu in Aguata local government area is being married in Nri in Anaocha local government area both in Anambra State.
