Danish aid worker, Anja Ringgren Loven celebrates Nigerian girl rescued from witchcraft

Danish aid worker Anja Ringgren Loven has celebrated the tenth anniversary of the rescue of a young Nigerian girl named Charity, who had been accused of witchcraft by her community. Loven, founder of the organization Land of Hope, rescued Charity on April 5th, 2013. In a post on her Facebook page, Loven shared before and after photos of Charity and wrote about the progress the young woman has made since her rescue.

“Yesterday was VERY special,” Loven wrote. “It was exactly 10 years ago Land of Hope Director of Child Development Nsidibe Orok and I found Charity in an abandoned house.” She explained that Charity “was accused of being a witch and outcasted by her family and the entire community.” When Loven and her team found Charity, she was “severely malnourished, beaten and abused,” and slept on the ground of an abandoned house wearing a too-big Chelsea football jersey.

According to Loven’s Facebook post, “what happened to Charity during those years of struggle and immense pain belongs to the past. Today Charity has become such a strong and Independent young woman, and next year she will start university.” Loven expressed gratitude for the support of those who have helped Charity, writing that “all thanks to your amazing love and support.”

Land of Hope is an organization dedicated to helping children in Nigeria who have been accused of witchcraft. The group rescues these children from the streets and provides them with shelter, education, medical care, and other support. Loven’s work with Land of Hope has earned her international recognition, including a place on Time Magazine’s list of the world’s 100 most influential people in 2016.

Loven’s celebration of Charity’s progress and accomplishments has resonated with many people around the world. Commenters on her Facebook post praised Loven’s work and expressed admiration for Charity’s strength and resilience. The post serves as a reminder of the power of love and compassion to transform lives and highlights the importance of organizations like Land of Hope in protecting the rights and welfare of vulnerable children.
