Defence Headquarters reacts to call for an interim National government

The Defence Headquarters has expressed its stance on the call for an interim National government in Nigeria by some citizens, describing it as mischievous and unconstitutional. Major General Musa Danmadami, the Director of Defence Media Operations, made this known during a biweekly briefing on troops’ activities and operational successes across the country’s six geopolitical zones in the past two weeks.

He emphasized that the military institution does not support illegality and will defend the constitution of the country. He also urged citizens to discard any contrary desires, as the elections have ended and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a president-elect.

Furthermore, the DMO noted that the military alone cannot handle the security challenges in the country, and therefore, everyone must contribute to ensuring that the fight is won. He assured that the military is working tirelessly to ensure peace in the country.

In the past two weeks, the military had denied oil thieves 407,542,868 Naira in the South South Zone, while in the South East, troops of Operation UDOKA continued the fight against criminality with the aim of restoring peace and calm in the region.
