On Friday, the Super performing Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Distinguished Uche Ekwunife (Iyom) performed the ground breaking ceremony for the building of a 3-bedroom bungalow for a widow at Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The ceremony is in line with the Senator’s move to construct bungalows for some less privileged people in the Senatorial District.
Welcoming the guests at the event which was attended by representatives of the Oba community, PDP party officials, the Idemili South Coordinator of Senator Uche Ekwunife Campaign Organizations (SUECO), Nze Mmadumelu Sunday Orthodox described the Senator’s decision as one borne out of her passion to touch the lives of families who are unable to afford a decent home.
After a thorough search conducted by the Senator for a truly indigent family in the LGA, Mrs Eunice Agusiokwu, an indigent widow from Oba community emerged as one of the beneficiaries.
Speaking during the event, a high ranking member of Igwe’s cabinet and member board of trustees Oba Patriotic Union, Chief Sir B. M Onyeka (Ichie Okom Oba) expressed delight over the project. He stated that the good gesture which the Senator has brought to Oba community has gladdened the heart of many in the town.
Speaking further, Ichie Okom described Senator Ekwunife as a public servant who has been consistent in her delivery of dividends of democracy to the people.
His words, “Today is indeed a happy day for us all, particularly for the family of Agusiokwu who are beneficiaries of this expression of benevolence by Iyom Ekwunife. By this gesture Senator Ekwunife has shown that she has the interest of the indigent at heart. It is therefore our earnest prayers that God will reward her good intentions by exalting her beyond her expectations”.
In her reaction, the beneficiary of the building project, Mrs Eunice Agusiokwu who could not contain her joy over the Senator’s magnanimity, thanked the Senator for putting smiles on the faces of her family. Expressing her excitement, the indigent widow stated that the news of her owning a 3-bedroom bungalow is still like a mirage to her and her family. She prayed God to reward the Senator abundantly and give her the zeal and opportunity to touch more lives.
Addressing the gathering, Senator Ekwunife appreciated the people of Oba community for the overwhelming support they gave her and the other candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last election. She noted that the reason why she initiated the housing project for the less privileged was to impact the lives of families who are struggling to have a decent roof over their heads.
Speaking further, the Federal Lawmaker noted that she is Senator today because of the support of other people, particularly the electorates who voted massively for her. She stated that the support she has gotten over the years from the people has motivated her to reach out to those in distress, particularly the less privileged ones in the society.
While stating that the project which will be delivered in 2-months shall be executed for selected beneficiaries in the entire 7 LGAs under her jurisdiction, Ekwunife reassured the people of the Senatorial District of her resolve to offer them a representation that is empathic, purposeful and people-centered.
