Umunnem, Ndi Anambra Central, I welcome you all to this brand new year, 2021.
Each New Year affords us the opportunity to renew our commitments to one another as well as re-dedicate ourselves towards addressing the challenges that we face both as individuals and as a Senatorial District.
The devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic coupled with our peculiar challenges as a nation have made the past year challenging. However, inspite of these challenges, we thank God that we are privileged to witness the end of 2020 and the begining of the New Year.
Although we still have so much to do to achieve our desired individual and collective objectives, as a Senatorial District we have been able to achieve many feats even in a difficult year.
18 months into the 9th Senate, we have established a new order in the business of lawmaking. With 26 Critical Bills and 11 Crucial Motions, we can proudly say that we are on the path of redefining constituency representation. Notable amongst the bills I sponsored are: Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2019, Local Government Autonomy Bill 2020, Public Procurement Amendment Bill 2019, Federal College of Automobile Engineering Obosi Establishment Bill 2020, Federal College of Commerce And Technical Skills Abagana Establishment Bill 2020 amongst others.
Some of the impactful motions I moved on the floor of the Senate, include, Motion of urgent national importance seeking to address the devastating storm in Obosi, Nkpor and Oraukwu communities of Anambra State, Motion on the need to complete the abandoned Greater Awka Water Scheme, Motion on the Fire Outbreaks At Motor Spare Parts Obosi and Loretto Special Science School Adazi-Nnukwu, Motion on the need to immortalize the Late Igwe Alex Nwokedi of Achalla amongst others.
My belief that human capital development is the bedrock of the society has moved me to attract life-changing projects and programmes to the Senatorial District. Some of our efforts in this regard include, ICT training and laptop grants for some youths in the Senatorial District, Distribution of Educational materials to over 131 schools, the National Office for Technology Acquisition And Promotion (NOTAP) technology story board distribution programme to some secondary schools in Anambra State, facilitation of a Strategic Seminar for the Clergy in Anambra Central, Capacity Building Conference for the Presidents General in Anambra Central, Leadership and Conflict Management Conference for the Traditional Rulers in Anambra Central, Entrepreneurial Development and Skills Acquisition training programme for the women and youths in our Senatorial District, and many other programmes.
Our much celebrated construction of 14 three bedroom bungalows for some less privileged families in the Senatorial District which have had many without a decent shelter rise in hope of becoming proud owners of new houses, has encouraged me to do more for the weak and the vulnerable ones among us.
In furtherance to our belief that support for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises is crucial to the stability and growth of our local economy, we facilitated Covid-19 and NIRSAL Loans for some small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs in our Senatorial District, and we are still committed to doing much more in this regard.
The roads construction ongoing in the Senatorial District are testimonies to our resolve to deliver impactful dividends of democracy to you. Notable amongst these include, Rehabilitation of Awka-Ekwulobia Road, Construction of Oguejiofor Road Adazi Nnukwu, Timber and Building Materials Market Road Umuokpu, Amikwo and Iyiagu Roads Awka, Umuogbuefi Village Road Ebenebe, Umuorji Village Road Enugwu-Ukwu, Echezona Road Obosi, Akuchukwu Road Nkpor, Anagu Road Umuoji, Second Ikemba Road Ogidi, E. Onyeagba Road Enugwu-Ukwu, Ifezue Road Nri, Ojiako Ezenne Road Adazi-Nnukwu, Izuchukwu Obi Road Ifitedunu, Road Construction Project at Ichida, Tarzan Junction/Akuzo Road Nkpor, Anagu Road Umuoji, Man Dodge Avenue Umudioka, Igwe Nwokedi Road Achalla, Odumodu Road Amawbia and others.
Aside these road projects, we are equally constructing and rehabilitating classroom blocks, engaging in erosion control projects, building market stalls, constructing boreholes. We have equally installed transformers and solar street lights in many communities in our Senatorial District amongst other projects.
Just as I stated in my Stakeholders briefing few days ago, I equally made efforts to ensure that necessary budgetary provisions were made in the 2021 budget to ensure the continuation and completion of the roads we attracted and the commencement of new ones.
As your representative, I shall remain committed to improving the standard of governance in our Senatorial District in this New Year, even more than I have done in the past.
In a special way, I want to thank you for your extraordinary support and prayers and reiterate my commitment to serve you better.
It is on this note that, I wish you, my good people of Anambra Central Senatorial District and indeed all Anambrarians a Happy New Year. May this year bring greater joy, prosperity and renewed hope to us and our families, and grant us the opportunity to further our mission both as individuals and as a Senatorial District. Ka UcheNdiAnambra Mezue. Amen!
Signed
Senator Uche Ekwunife (Iyom)
Anambra Central Senatorial District.
