Female Reps claims 198 members-elect back her speakership race in the 10th National Assembly

A member representing Onuimo/Isiala Mbano/Okigwe Federal Constituency from Imo State, Princess Onuoha, claims to have the support of 198 members-elect to emerge as the next Speaker of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly. Onuoha made this statement during an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday.

Onuoha, who won her re-election on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), says she delivered for her party’s flag bearer, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, at the February 25 presidential poll, despite Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) winning in Imo.

According to Onuoha, she is not in the race because she is from the South-East. She says she has offered herself to serve the Nigerian people and offer them robust and dynamic leadership. She argues that she has the requirements to be the next Speaker of the green chamber. Onuoha promised to improve legislative-executive dialogue with fresh ideas to ensure resolutions don’t become tissue papers.

The APC secured over 160 of the 360 seats in the green chamber in the February 25 National Assembly poll, the highest by any party. However, the APC said it has yet to make a decision on zoning for the leadership of the 10th National Assembly.
