Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has sympathized with the families of persons involved in a boat mishap that occured in Umunnankwo Community, Ogbaru Council Area.
It was gathered that tens of people are still unaccounted for in the unfortunate incident, though search is still ongoing.
Reports has it that the boat occupants were on their way to Nkwo Ogbakuba when it capsized by Umunankwo Ossomala Bridge and over 10 persons drowned.
In a statement, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Soludo, Mr Christian Aburime, he quoted the governor as saying: “This development is still a shock to the government and good people of Anambra State. I sympathize with the families of people involved”.
While regretting the unfortunate incident, Governor Soludo further stated that several interventions have been sent by government to various IDP camps within the State.
He assured that government will continue to do its best to reduce the negative effects of the flood disaster, just as he called for a permanent solution to it yearly occurrence
According to the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, this year’s flood has risen above the devastating 2012 flood by 11% thereby increasing the risks for more boats to capsize.
