Few hours ago, AIF Media published a report of the case filed by Hon Tony OneWeek Muonagor against the primaries of APGA which produced Hon Ikenna Iyiegbu popularly known as Ike Cubana as the candidate of APGA for 2023 Idemili north & south house of representatives election.
Hon OneWeek went to court citing the violation of section 84 subsection 5 which stated that all political parties special congresses for the election of the candidates for house of representatives shall be held in the constituency where the party tends to sponsor the candidate.
In the case of Idemili north & south federal Constituency, the camp of Ike Cubana through the help of Ozonkpu hijacked the process and went to Awka to conduct the primaries.
When AIF Media published the news report this afternoon, most of the supporters of Ike Cubana alleged that the primary election was taken to Awka, because of insecurity.
Now, APGA held her primary election for Idemili north & south on May 27, 2022 at Awka citing insecurity. The same day, May 27, 2022, PDP held her own primary election for Idemili north and south house of representatives at Ogidi, in Idemili north LGA.
It was held at Nkwelle-Ogidi town hall where Hon Obinna Chidoka emerged the candidate of the party.
The same day May 27, 2022, APC held her primary election for house of representatives for Idemili north and south federal constituency at Nkpor in Idemili north LGA.
The primary election for APC took place at Ifite Primary school, Nkpor-uno where Hon Ibezi Ifeanyichukwu emerged the candidate of APC.
Therefore, the claim of APGA that it relocated the venue of her primary election for Idemili north and south federal constituency to Awka agaisnt the provisions of the electoral act and APGA election guideline due to insecurity is doubtful.
Non compliance and violation of the electoral act is a serious offense. It is safe at this point to say that APGA has no candidate in Idemili north and south federal constituency pending the determination of the case at the high court.
