Traders at Timber Market Umuokpu on Monday, 7th December, 2020 had their hearts filled with joy and gratitude as the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Senator Uche Ekwunife (Iyom) facilitates a road construction project at the market.
The market which is located along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway is the most popular Timber and Building Materials Market in Awka Capital Territory.
The Project was flagged-off by the Zonal Project Monitoring committee, Anambra Central led by the former commissioner for women affairs Anambra State, Lady Henrietta Agbata. The committee was received at the timber market by the executives and members of the Timber Market Dealers Association.
Welcoming the Project committee, Hon Kelue Dike, the Secretary of the Association expressed gratitude to Senator Ekwunife for matching her words with action. He recalled that during the last election, the Senator promised to construct a road at the market if elected, and is today fulfilling her promise to the traders.
Describing Senator Ekwunife as EKWUEME, Hon Dike stated that the Senator has by this gesture shown the traders and indeed the good people of Anambra Central that she has the capacity to address the yearnings of her constituents. He assured the Senator of the continued support of the traders in the market, and prayed God to give her the enablement to do more for Ndi Anambra Central and beyond.
In their separate speeches, the Director of the Project Monitoring committee, Lady Henrietta Agbata and a member of the committee, Hon Humphrey Iloh noted that the Senator considers the market a viable economic component in the State and will continue to ensure that they receive all the support they need to make greater contributions to the economic growth of the State.
Also in the delegation were the Former Accountant General of Anambra State, Mrs Helen Nwaeri, Former General Manager Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Chief Victor Okpoko, the Former Chairman of ASUBEB, Dr Rose Nwankwo, the Project Manager Anambra Central Liaison Office, Mrs Ifeyinwa Chinwuko and others.
Also notably present were the Woman Leader of the Market, Mrs Ego, a member of the Executive, Mr Chizoba Maduka, and others.
