In what appears to be the final stage of forming his cabinet, President Bola Tinubu is expected to send the list of ministerial nominees to the Senate for screening and confirmation today, as reported by Vanguard.
Top contenders for screening include Nasir El-Rufai, the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Dele Alake, the current Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, Adegboyega Oyetola, former governor of Osun State, Wale Edun, the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, Adebayo Adelabu, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and Beta Edu, who served as the Commissioner for Health in Cross River State and the National Woman Leader of the APC.
The President’s decision to form a government of national unity may lead to the inclusion of some leaders from the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the ministerial list.
It is worth noting that President Tinubu took the oath of office on May 29, succeeding former President Muhammadu Buhari, and he is expected to form his cabinet within 60 days of assuming office, as mandated by the constitution.
The anticipated list will reportedly comprise 43 names, with one nominee representing each state, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Additionally, the list is said to include nominees from each of the country’s geopolitical zones.
Sources indicate that Special Advisers such as Dele Alake and Wale Edun are also tipped to be on the list. Prominent figures like Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, and Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola are expected to be part of the lineup.
Speculations suggest that Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, may be appointed as the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice due to ongoing discussions about the position.
