The St Francis Catholic Church located in Owo, Ondo State, reopened on Sunday, April 9, for religious activities, 10 months after it was attacked by gunmen. The attack, which occurred on June 5, 2022, resulted in the death of some worshippers, while others were injured.
According to The PUNCH, the governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, visited the church shortly after the incident to commiserate with the church and the entire town. Relief materials and funds were also donated to the victims and families of those who lost their loved ones.
In March 2023, Governor Akeredolu announced that the construction of a memorial park in honor of the victims of the attack had begun. It is worth noting that the governor is an indigene of Owo.
The reopening of the church was met with joy and excitement by members of the congregation who had eagerly awaited the resumption of religious activities in the church.
