Catholic Church in Owo to Reopen on Easter Sunday After Terror Attack

The St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Owo local government, is set to re-open for worshippers on Easter Sunday following last year’s terror attack. The church was attacked on June 5, 2022, by unknown gunmen, leading to the death of 41 persons, while 69 others sustained varying degrees of injury. The suspects arrested in connection with the attack by the military were found to be from the Ebira tribe, which is known for migrant farming.

The Bishop of the Ondo Diocese, Rev Bishop Jude Arogundade, disclosed the reopening of the church during this year’s Chrism mass, as part of the activities to mark Easter celebration.
