The Awka Political Leadership Forum (APLF) has called on Hon. Nigeria Mbachu, the Anambra State House of Assembly member representing the good people of Awka South Constituency 1 to leave the Labour Party (LP), citing similar circumstances that led to the exit of Valentine Ozigbo from the party.
Despite facing challenges within his party, Hon. Mbachu has remained resolute in his commitment to providing organic and sincere representation, even without support from party stakeholders or his colleagues in the House.
It will be recalled that in mid-January 2025, Hon. Mbachu was removed from the State Assembly’s official WhatsApp forum. His only offense was speaking out against the worsening insecurity in the state.
He has been vocal and courageous in condemning the rising security challenges but has faced backlash from party leaders. At one point, there were moves to suspend him, which were only halted by public outcry and pressure from his constituents.
His major “offense” was pointing out that the State Assembly had not done enough to ensure the release of a kidnapped lawmaker who was abducted in Onitsha during the Christmas period. Shockingly, Hon. Mbachu has still not been reinstated in the Assembly’s official platform, while his colleagues—including those from his own party—remain silent.
The APLF believes that the Labour Party has allowed external forces to infiltrate its ranks and is failing to protect its members. The group has therefore urged Hon. Mbachu to consider joining a party that will stand by him and his values.
