I condemn in its entirety the recent report that two suspected killers of a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Late Hon Justice Azuka escaped from police custody.
The development is not only disheartening but a spat on the faces of Ndi Anambra. How can suspects accused of such weighty crime escape from custody without a trace? The incident reeks of conspiracy and negligence by the Anambra state chapter of the Nigerian police. It sounds illogical given the number of security details we have seen deployed to arrest native doctors in these past few days.
On December 24, 2024, Hon Azuka, a young legislator and family man was abducted by deadly kidnappers. After 46 days of intensive search for his whereabout, his decomposing body was found, which struck a dagger in hearts of his loved ones and indeed all lovers of humanity.
As a concerned citizen of Anambra, I am shocked that the police through this incident has shown lack of recognition of the outcry of the people over the surge in insecurity in the state, which has seen scores dead and missing. The deterioration of security in the state and inability of the police to arrest the situation led to the deployment of the new Anambra state security strategy, which has led to the arrest of some criminals who have been terrorizing the state, including the escaped murder suspects.
I join voices with all well-meaning Anambrarian, particularly the youths of Anambra South to demand that serious actions be taken to re-arrest the suspects who are currently at large, and thorough investigation and punishment of officers found culpable in the incident.
Ndi Anambra have gone through so much pain in the hands of these criminal elements to recieve this kind of report that dampens our spirit against the fight over insecurity. Actions must be taken by all stakeholders involved to ensure that Hon Azuka and his family get Justice!
