The recent screening of Senatorial aspirants by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has recorded its first casualty in the person of Dr. Tony Nwoye who hitherto was angling to clinch the party’s ticket in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
Dr. Tony Nwoye, a senatorial aspirant for Anambra North, who only recently pivoted back to the party after cross carpeting to the All Progressive Congress (APC), was said to come under the hammer due to reports and petitions filed against him with regard to his alleged penchant for thuggery, assassinations, cultism and the widely celebrated burning of the Anambra State Government house in 2004 when he was said to have led the team of daredevil hoodlums that perpetrated the dastardly act.
Also there are reports that a prominent senior citizen from the South East who once took him under his wings, had earlier submitted a petition against him that borders on fraudulent collection of funds by false means.
Sources at the PDP have confirmed that the panel took this decision to avoid a situation where a liability of such magnitude would fly it’s ticket and in so doing, mar it’s chances in the general elections.
We have been reliably informed that the PDP is not taking any chances with the forthcoming general elections as it believes that with the prevailing mood of the country which has seen Nigerians totally repudiating the APC, it stands a good chance to take over power and the only way to achieve this is by presenting credible and sellable candidates with track records of service delivery and unimpeachable characters.
Our sources tell us that the PDP knows that it is in the very same position the APC found itself in the months and weeks leading up to the 2015 general election and cannot gamble away it’s ticket to questionable characters.
We shall be bringing you more details as they unfold.
