Dr. Maryam Shetty, a nominee for a ministerial position by President Bola Tinubu, has expressed her perspective on the withdrawal of her nomination. She attributed the decision to life’s unpredictable nature, acknowledging that she bears no ill will towards anyone.
In a statement released yesterday, Shetty emphasized that being nominated for the ministerial position was an honor that validated her capabilities and represented a significant step towards more inclusive national representation. Hailing from the traditional and conservative regions of northern Nigeria, she saw her nomination as a positive sign of the nation’s readiness to embrace young women from various backgrounds in positions of influence and power.
Although President Tinubu replaced her nomination with Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, also from Kano State, Shetty did not view the development as a setback. She credited her devout Muslim faith for guiding her understanding, perceiving the withdrawal as the divine will of Allah, who grants power as He wishes. In her belief, Allah’s plans are always superior to human expectations.
As of press time, the reason behind the decision to replace Shetty’s name with Mahmoud’s remains undisclosed. Despite the change, Shetty remains optimistic and embraces the idea of inclusive representation in Nigeria’s political landscape.
