The attacks from the camp of senator Ike Ekweremadu on the recent reunion of Ebeano Political Family founded by the former governor of Enugu state, Senator Dr Chimaroke Ogbonnaya Nnamani should not go unnoticed
Why is the camp of Ike Ekweremadu attacking the reunion and the solidarity visit of the Ebeano Political Structure to the governor of Enugu state, Rt Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on September 19, 2020?
I saw where one Celestine Okanya, a known media agent of the former deputy senate president was trying to blackmail former gov Chimaroke Nnamani. Okanya forgot that Ike Ekweremadu was the Secretary to the State Government during that administration. His boss CANNOT remove or disassociate himself from whatever that went wrong or right during their reign.
Ike Ekweremadu was part and parcel of Chimaroke Nnamani’s administration, therefore attempts to use the activities of the then govt to blackmail the rebranded Ebeano Political Family under the new leadership of gov Ugwuanyi will fail.
It is on record that Ike Ekweremadu is the biggest beneficiary of Ebeano political agenda in Enugu state. In 2007 when Nnamani handed over power to Barr Sullivan Chime, it was Ekweremadu that connived with Chime to chase Chimaroke out of PDP.
He took the advantage of political naivety of Sullivan Chime to hijack the Ebeano Political Structure and used the platform to perpetuate himself in power and dominate the state politics. After his 20 year unbroken stay at the senate from 2003, he wants to come back to become the governor of Enugu state in 2023.
In his usual political smartness, he will possibly renegotiate for another four years in the senate should his ill advised bid to become the governor of Enugu state fails.
Since Ugwuanyi brought Chimaroke Nnamani back to PDP from the political wilderness where he was confined, Ike has acted in a manner that’s unbecoming of someone who was made by Nnamani.
What else does Ike Ekweremadu want? He has been in govt since 1999 till date. Does he think that his latest antics of mobilising faceless attack dogs against the reunited Ebeano camp will deter the group from championing a balanced political interest in the state.
Ike Ekweremadu should learn from the recent embarrassment at the last Edo Election and do the needful. Enugu state is not his political foothold. He is now an elder statesman, he should step aside and help groom others. But if he insists – it must be him, then, he will be forcefully retired in 2023.
