Terrorist Herdsmen; My challenge to IPOB and Ndi Igbo

By Bede Chukwuekezie

* We talk, complain and insult too much: let us take action once and for all❗️

I have not hidden my opposition to open grazing and disdain for our leaders inability to tackle the problem with civility and fair play. I have voiced out against the menace of terrorist herdsmen who have been allowed by our leaders to invade our farmlands, graze on our crops and kill our people without restraint.

The activities of the herdsmen are damaging to our agric economy and portend huge security risks. Our farmers lose their crops to the cattle and our people get murdered and raped every day. This must stop and we all know that we are the only people to stop it. Our governors, senators, HOR and HOA members will not do anything because they are less concerned and afraid of their shadows.

Let no one tell you that it is the Fulani man’s culture to be nomadic. If it is their culture let them go back to their environment and practice it. Our culture is to have your animals in pens and ranches.

Covid-19 has shown us that Fulani people can also change their ways of life for good reasons. When Covid 19 killed 150 persons in Kano, they revoked the Almajiri system and by so doing changed their Almajiri culture and nomadic life. Because if they believed in their culture too much, even if they closed Almajiri system, they would have allowed the kids to remain and roam the states in nomadic way.

If the Northerners can stop Almajiri system because Covid 19 killed 150 persons, why can’t we ban open grazing when it has led to thousands of deaths?

So my challenge and suggestion is this:

1. I want IPOB members to choose a day suitable for them to congregate in front of Okpara square in Enugu. We want nothing less than 100,000 (one hundred thousand) persons.

2. From there I will lead the protest to Enugu state House of Assembly and occupy the premises. We will not allow the house members to leave until they have passed a bill banning open grazing and nomadic cattle rearing in the state.

3. When they pass the bill, we will escort the relevant officers to the government house. We will occupy the premises until the governor accents to the bill.

4. Once this is done, the commissioner of Police will work with the 17 LG chairmen and other state agencies like the Forest Guards to vacate the herdsmen from the bushes within 14 days.

I think that this is the only way out not noise making. We should stop the noise and put our feet on ground
