Stop Parading As APC Candidate For Nnewi North, South, Ekwusigo Fed Constituency, Ezeobi Warns Smart Okafor

Hon Paul Ezeobi has warned the Member Representing Nnewi North at the Anambra State House of Assembly to stop parading himself as the candidate of the All Progressive Congress for Nnewi North, South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency Seat.

This was contained in a press release obtained by Daily News Reporters in the early hours of today titled – titled: ”
Attention: Honorable Smart Okafor Should Stop Parading Himself As APC’s Candidate for Nnewi North, South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency.”

It reads

“Our attention has been drawn to the news making the rounds that Hon. Smart Okafor is the APC House of Representatives Candidate for Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency despite the pending court in case as well as a number of judicial precedents that should naturally serve as signposts for our democratic process.

To a majority of party members particularly those from the federal constituency, Hon. Okafor did not emerge as the duly elected candidate of the party, owing to the fact that the delegates who voted for him were not duly recognized in the eyes of the law including the electoral Act and the constitution of our great party, the APC.

It is a fact that sometime in December 2021, the Court of Appeal quashed the December 2018 High Court Judgement and returned Barr. Ibe as elected State Chairman to complete his tenure which runs from 2018-2022.  Despite this, Chief Basil Ejidike and his group went ahead to conduct an illegal congress which was challenged by 18 LG Party Chairmen and the congresses. The congresses were annulled by a High Court sitting in Awka in a judgement presided over by Hon. Justice Ike Ogu. The honorable court held that the tenure of all elected officials in the congresses of May 2018 was still tenable and that there was no vacancy in the party’s leadership! This automatically voids the delegates list submitted by Chief Ejidike and consequently disqualifies any candidate that emerged through such a sham that used an illegitimate delegate list.

As a law abiding citizen, Hon. Paul Ezeobi has already approached the courts challenging the illegal process through which Hon. Smart Okafor purportedly emerged and has prayed the courts to among other things, declare him as the authentic candidate of the APC for Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo federal constituency in the 2023 general elections and also to order the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise him as such.

We urge the party members as well as the good people of Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency to remain calm as though the wheels of justice turns slowly they surely grind exceedingly. Justice and truth shall prevail at last.
